You get the ski weekends, but you're also sitting in a rural-feeling place with lakes, woodlands, and trails; the Honey Creek Inn has been slinging scratch-made food and craft beer since 1936, and there's a 1,300-acre state game area nearby for hiking and hunting. Homes here run around $490K, and most people own them outright. A 30-minute drive puts you in downtown Grand Rapids when you need it, but most days you're looking at Luton Park's 9.7 miles of biking and trail-running paths, or hitting Pickerel Lake's 900-foot boardwalk through the Fred Meijer Nature Preserve. The township itself goes back to 1842 when LeGrand Cannon founded Cannonsburg—there's even a historical museum in the original 1890 township hall if you're into that stuff.
