Vergennes

Fallasburg Park sits on the banks of the Flat River, its historic covered bridge dating to eighteen seventy-one—a stone arch that still carries foot traffic over what was once the main westward crossing. The park anchors eight hundred acres of public land across rolling, wooded terrain that rolls through Vergennes Township, broken here and there by farms and scattered homes. A thirty-minute drive puts you in downtown Grand Rapids, but out here the feel is decidedly rural: long sight lines, state game areas, and enough space between neighbors that "subdivision" doesn't quite apply. The North Country National Scenic Trail cuts through, disc golf unfolds across eighteen holes, and every autumn the Fallasburg Arts Festival draws twenty-five thousand people to see a hundred artists set up shop.
