The hamlet sits on the Flat River about eighteen miles northeast of Grand Rapids, a place that declined after the railroad chose nearby Lowell instead but refused to disappear entirely. The historic district—twenty acres of mid-1800s brick and timber homes, a one-room schoolhouse, cemetery, and two museum houses—got its National Register designation in 1999, and Fallasburg Park, all two hundred fifty acres of it, anchors the whole thing with trails and an annual fall festival.
