This part of Montcalm County has that suburban-rural split where you get brick ranch homes on corner lots in town and four-acre spreads with no one in sight, sometimes both at once if you land right on one of the all-sports lakes dotting the area. Sheridan sits at the heart of things, with the Stanton State Game Area just over a mile away if you want public space to roam, a grocery a stone's throw, and enough restaurants and coffee shops within reasonable reach that you're not completely cut off—though a 70-minute drive to downtown Grand Rapids means this is decidedly your own world, not a suburb of someone else's. The bones here are old: sawmills from 1879, settlers arriving in 1851, the kind of layered history that shows up in what people have chosen to build and keep.
