Every October, thousands of Canada geese descend on the nearby Allegan State Game Area, and the city marks the occasion with a festival that's been running since 1984—a genuinely local tradition that feels less like tourism infrastructure and more like an annual excuse to gather. The Stevens Hotel, a 1910 landmark that anchors the town's character, is being redeveloped as the Wine Trail Inn. Summer brings Thursday evening outdoor concerts featuring international artists on a stage across from City Hall, and a new City Square Park—complete with an amphitheater and splash pad—is under construction for 2025. Beyond the downtown core, the agricultural identity remains genuine: apple and peach farming still shapes the surrounding countryside, and orchards and farm stands remain part of the visual landscape. With a population just under 1,750, Fennville sits about 45 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, making it close enough for weekend drives but far enough to feel genuinely rural. The city itself covers 705 acres with generous lot sizes averaging over 32 acres—plenty of space if you're drawn to farmland proximity rather than suburban density.
