Follow Fulton Street East away from the core of Grand Rapids and the ground starts to roll and dip toward water — this is one of the few places in the city where lakes sit inside the street grid. West Lake, Middle Lake, and Church Lake fan out just north of Fulton, small kettle lakes ringed by trees, and the roads bend to follow their shorelines instead of holding to a strict square block. The land began as part of old Paris Township and filled in as a residential area through the 1920s, so the housing stock tends toward detached homes on wooded lots, with the architecture shifting street to street rather than marching to one style. The green anchors are hard to miss: the St. Francis of Assisi Sculpture Garden on the old Marywood grounds off Fulton offers about eleven acres of paths under mature canopy, and Frederick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park sits a short drive to the northeast for outdoor sculpture and conservatory shows. Oak Industrial Park along the edge keeps everyday businesses within reach, while Fulton Street itself carries you west into the city or east toward the suburbs. Public schools here fall within Grand Rapids Public Schools. It is a place defined by its geography first — water, oaks, and curving lanes — with the residential blocks tucked between the lakes and the main road.
