Southeast of Grand Rapids, where 60th Street SE meets Kalamazoo Avenue SE, the streets wind around the 18 holes of the Stonewater Country Club golf course — and that course is where the name comes from. When the club opened in 1989, designed by Ernie Schrock, it was called Crystal Springs Country Club. It was later renamed Stonewater (now part of RedWater Golf), but the residential community that grew up around it kept the original name, which is why the neighborhood and the club go by different names today. Many of the homes back up to fairways, greens, and ponds, with addresses that reference specific holes. Kalamazoo Avenue runs through the middle as an internal line: homes to the west belong to the Crystal Springs Property Owners Association, while those on the east side also fall under The Village of Crystal Springs association.
