Southeast of Grand Rapids, in the City of Kentwood, Ridgebrook is a wooded pocket of streets built out largely in the 1970s and wrapped around Jaycee Park. The neighborhood takes its name from its central spine — Ridgebrook Avenue and Ridgebrook Drive SE — a descriptive "ridge and brook" name of the sort West Michigan subdivisions favored in that era, and a fitting one for terrain threaded by the small Plaster Creek tributaries that wind through the trees. Its edges are easy to read from the road: 52nd Street SE runs along the north, and Kalamazoo Avenue SE forms the western boundary, sloping south toward the shops and grocery stores — Meijer, Family Fare, Walmart — that ring the area. Downtown Grand Rapids is about a nine-mile drive, with M-6 and US-131 close at hand and The Rapid running regional buses through.
