Bailey's Grove is a master-planned community carved from former cornfields and wetlands in southeast Kentwood, on the east side of the Grand Rapids metro. Eastbrook Homes assembled the land in the mid-1990s and built it out between 1997 and 2007, laying curving streets and cul-de-sacs across roughly 300 acres between 52nd Street and 60th Street SE. The name honors Sluman Bailey, a 19th-century Paris Township farmer who went on to serve as sheriff of Kent County and, by the community's own account, spent his later years campaigning for equal property rights for women and for better area roads. Addresses here carry both Kentwood and Grand Rapids postal names under zip 49512, but the municipality is Kentwood.
