Six Lakes

What surprises most people is that there's actually a seventh lake lurking in the chain—the maps say six, but if you count carefully, you'll find one more. The area sits where M-46 and M-66 intersect in Montcalm County, about an hour north of Grand Rapids, and it's defined by water: First through Sixth Lake form a connected string that feeds into the Flat River. The Flat River Saloon serves some of the best burgers around, and the summer flea market on M-66 draws crowds. Belvidere Township Park & Municipal Campground offers lakeside camping and boat access, while walking trails wind through the area—birdwatchers find plenty to spot. Waterfront homes sit on channel frontage and quiet stretches with genuine lake views; inland properties spread across 2 to 20+ acres, some with barns and room to breathe.
