The name here is borrowed from a landmark, not a founding. It comes from Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, the long-standing behavioral-health campus at 300 68th Street SE, whose grounds sit just north of this residential pocket. There's no old platted "Pine Rest" subdivision behind the name — the area is really the central Cutlerville stretch on the southern edge of Grand Rapids, in Gaines Township, with "Grand Rapids" on the mailing addresses even though the township of record is Gaines. Locals tend to orient by cross-streets rather than a neighborhood label: 68th Street SE up by the Pine Rest campus, 76th Street SE to the south, the Kalamazoo Avenue SE corridor to the east, and Division Avenue SE, Cutlerville's main commercial spine, a short distance west.
