Lookout Lofts

So here's the thing about Lookout Lofts—you're literally on a bluff, 160 feet up, staring down at downtown Grand Rapids. That's not hyperbole. On a clear day from your unit, you can see the whole city spread out below you like someone laid it out on a map. The neighborhood has four different staircases woven through it because the topography is genuinely unforgiving, which sounds like a hassle until you realize it means you're paying around $704K for a condo in a place most people never venture into because they're intimidated by the terrain. Homes here run the gamut—you've got cobblestone streets next to contemporary condos, old factories turned into lofts, late-1800s brick houses. Downtown is four and a half minutes away; the airport is 22 minutes. There are 19 parks within a mile, including Lookout Park right next door, which exists specifically because people wanted a spot to stare at the view. A coffee shop is a seven-minute walk, and if you need to eat—which you will—there are nearly 300 restaurants within a mile. The one wrench is groceries: the nearest store is a fifteen-minute walk, and there's no supermarket actually in the neighborhood, so you'll be making that run or ordering in. Transit is strong here if you need it. But mostly you move here for the vantage point and the fact that it feels slightly removed from the city while being right in it, and that's worth the stair-climbing.
