South of downtown Grand Rapids, along the Division Avenue corridor between roughly 44th and 60th Streets SE, this is a community that predates the cities now drawn around it. There's no municipal line to trace — a house here might carry a Grand Rapids, Kentwood, or Wyoming address — but the name has held since 1859, when Francis Kellogg donated land for a one-room schoolhouse and the district took his name. That first building burned and was replaced in 1882, a second room followed in 1907, a WPA-funded high school went up in 1936, and the district has kept building since, with Central Kelloggsville Elementary opening as recently as 2021. US-131 runs the western edge, and Division Avenue is still the spine everything orients around.
