Southeast of where Division Avenue and 44th Street cross, the streets carry a name older than the cities around them. Home Acres was one of a batch of small subdivisions platted in the 1920s as Wyoming Township filled in along the Division corridor, next to Godwin Heights and Wyoming Park. It never became its own town — a 1931 plan to fold the district into a village called "Emerson" fizzled, and a separate push to christen it "South Grand Rapids" went nowhere either. The land was absorbed instead by the incorporating cities, which is why the area sits at a three-way seam where Grand Rapids, Wyoming, and Kentwood all meet, and why an address here can read as any of the three. The name lives on where it always has: at Home Acres Building Supply on Division Avenue S, and at Home Acres Park.
