The name comes from the 104-acre county park at the center of it all — a stand of mature hardwood forest that Titus and Frances Hager gave to Ottawa County, laid out from the start as an arboretum. Walk the trails in April and May and the forest floor fills with wildflowers. Elsewhere in the park there's a relief map of the United States set into the ground, with the community-built "Age of Discovery" playground beside it, plus horseshoe pits, picnic shelters, and a handful of reservable buildings. Entry is free and the gates are open year-round. The surrounding homes lean on the name too: there's a Hager Park West subdivision and a homeowners association that borrow it outright, which is why "Hager Park" reads as a place and not just a park.
