Entrican

This small hamlet sits on the Flat River in Montcalm County farm country, named after George W. and Albert Entrican, the first local men to enlist when the Civil War began—Albert later became postmaster when the office opened in 1887. What remains today is quiet and rural: a handful of residents, the old cemetery, and mostly wooded acreage broken up by country roads and the occasional cottage or ranch home on larger lots. The area draws people looking for space and access to lakes—Indianhead Lake and others nearby offer swimming and camping—and it's close enough to bigger towns for supplies, yet far enough out that you're genuinely in open country. About an hour north of Grand Rapids, it's the kind of place where a weekend getaway or year-round retreat means trading noise for land.
