You're looking at a lake community built around golf and water—the kind of place where people keep golf carts parked at home and launch them straight onto the course. Lake Doster itself, a spring-fed 180-acre stretch, anchors everything here: pan fishing for bluegills that locals brag about, summer water skiing with slalom courses people set up in their own backyard, and the Lake Doster Golf Club, which made enough of a reputation that serious players know the "Little Monster," a 110-yard par 3 where the green sits ringed by water and sand. The Doster Country Store has been around over a century, still doing business under its original motto, and the pizza there—pickle and BBQ chicken varieties included—reads like local pride masquerading as menu items. Roads wind through, quiet enough for jogging and biking; jet skis stay off the water by agreement. About 43 miles south of Grand Rapids and close to Plainwell, it's removed enough to feel like its own thing, near enough that leaving isn't a production.
