Cannonsburg

The ski hill dominates the skyline here—21 runs cutting through the woods, nine lifts churning year-round, and a tubing park that's the largest in the state. Once you step away from the lodge, though, the place opens into quiet acreage: a 1,300-acre state game area, creeks, and enough greenspace to justify why people drive out here on weekends. The village itself clusters around a gas station with a cast-alloy moose statue—locals call it Ralph—and the Grist Mill, which has been grinding out breakfast, baked goods, and butcher cuts since the 1930s. Honey Creek Inn sits a short walk away, still serving dinner the way it has since 1936.
